12 Useless Wedding Gifts That the Couple Will Not Appreciate!
If you’re familiar with Indian weddings, then you’re also familiar with the standard bunch of wedding gifts that the couple receives. And they just don’t seem to change!
As wide as the couples’ smiles might be as they tell you they loved your gift, trust me they’re probably sick of all that unnecessary stuff occupying much needed space at their new house.
Would you be completely overjoyed with the 5 paintings, 7 cookers and 10 crockery sets that you got at your wedding? Of course not! Really, the best thing to do is to steer clear of all these common, overdone gifting ideas.
If you know the couple well enough, then please make the effort of giving them something they’d actually like. You could just ask them as well. But if you don’t really know them, then stick with cash! Or maybe a box of fancy chocolates. 😉
CROCKERY SETS
Really? You actually considered this one? TBH, who even uses fancy-ass crockery sets? Trust me, they’re just going to be lying the back of a kitchen cupboard.
WALL HANGINGS / SHOW PIECES / IDOLS
Honestly, nobody cares. What would someone do with a random figure of two couples kissing? It’s just going to occupy space!
PAINTING OR OTHER ART
Okay, this one is actually acceptable but the only reason it’s on this list is because you can’t really be sure of what kinda art the couple like, right. But if you do know exactly what they love, then by all means, go for it. Avoid gifting random paintings of fruit or the seaside or something.
PICTURE FRAMES
I remember gifting a picture frame for Secret Santa in 5th grade. That should give you your answer to why not.
BATH LINENS
The couple might have already chosen their handpicked set of bath towels that they love so avoid giving them another that they might just keep away for a guest visiting at some point. Or hey, if you don’t mind that, go ahead.
DRESS MATERIALS
Cut pieces of pant / shirt / blouse / kurta just don’t … well, cut it.
Once again, you don’t know if the bride / groom is going to like it! Plus, what if they don’t even want that extra shirt or kurta. What if they want to make a lehenga and the material falls short. So yeah, just don’t.
PARENTING BOOKS / BABY PRODUCTS
Because no one needs that kinda pressure! Even if you know they intend to have kids soon, don’t go all out and give them a set of parenting materials. Save this one for the baby shower.
BED LINEN / HOUSEHOLD ITEMS
This basically refers to bedsheets, pillows, curtains, etc. Do not give them stuff like this because you don’t know what colour theme they want for their house or what kinda décor they’re going in for. Aesthetics matter. =)
FLOWERS
Real or plastic, what does one even do with flowers? :/
Not to mention, 50% of their gifts will consist of flower bouquets.
If you really are clueless, go with chocolate! One can never have too much of chocolate.
MAKE – UP
Are you really going to spend 7000 rupees on that Mac make-up kit? No, right? Then avoid gifting the bride make-up that she isn’t really going to use. She probably has her own set of products anyway!
THE HEAVY CRYSTAL BOWL
We all know this one. Heck, we’ve even seen one filled with random coloured objects at every uncle’s house we’ve visited. This has no use whatsoever.
KINKY STUFF
Ummm…. way to make it awkward! It’s the wedding guys. Feel free to go all out on sexy lingerie or whatever on the bachelorette but tone it down a bit for the wedding. God knows, she might even be around a bunch of people when she opens them!
