July and August are the best months of the year to travel to tropical islands, hilly areas, sandy beaches, being one with nature. In a country like India, you have a plethora of destinations to choose from for spending a cosy, romantic holiday, owing to the country’s geographical diversity.

1. Landour

Enveloped in the mists of the Himalayas, this town should certainly be on top of your bucket list. Here, the air is filled with a woody smell and you will find yourself amidst colonial country homes, winding roads and coniferous trees.
How to get there: The nearest airport is Dehradun, located 65kms from Landour. It is a 40 minute walk from Mussoorie bazaar or else you could hire a cab.
Must-see spots: Ivy Cottage (where Ruskin Bond wrote his stories), Char Dukan, Church of St. Paul, Prakash store.
2. Kinnaur

Kinnaur, best known as the ‘The Land of God’ is known for its serenity, greenery and mountainscapes. This location is replete with spiritual attractions like the Kinner Kailash, Shivalinga rocks and old Buddhist Monasteries.
How to get there: The most convenient way is by taking buses that run from Chandigarh and Delhi. The nearest airport is Shimla, from where you can take a taxi.
Must-see spots: Reckong Peo, Nako, Ribba, Kalpa and Sarahan.
3. Shillong

Referred to as the ‘Scotland of the East’, this romantic city lies amidst pine trees and pineapple shrubs. The light drizzle and cool winds make this a sought after romantic spot. The mountain peaks, the lakes, the zoo, museums and natural beauty is definitely a must-see.
How to get there: The nearest airport is Umroi Airport, which is just 25 kilometres away. The closest railway station is Guwahati, which is 100 kilometres away and you could also take a bus from Guwahati to Shillong.
Must-see spots: Crinoline falls, Shillong peak, The Ward Lake, The State Museum and Air Force Museum.
4. Dooars
Dooars is famous for its tea gardens, forests and its River Teesta. It is an ideal location for nature-lovers and adrenaline-seeking couples. Known for its diverse wildlife sanctuaries, one can spot herds of deer, one-horned rhino, elephants, reptiles and guars.
How to get there: The nearest airport is Bagdogra. Once you reach the airport, you can take a taxi and reach Dooars. You can also take a Kanchankanya Express that leaves daily from Kolkata (Sealdah station).
Must-see spots: Gorumara National Park, Buxa Tiger Reserve, Suntalekhola, Samsing and Neora Valley National Park.
5. Valley of Flowers National Park
A high-altitude Himalayan Valley, this landscape in Uttarakhand comes to life especially during the monsoon season. With 300 different varieties of alpine flowers and a backdrop of snow-capped mountains, this location is absolutely jaw-dropping!
How to get there: The nearest airport is Dehradun (295 kms) and the nearest railway station is Rishikesh (276 kms).
Must-see spots: Nanda Devi National Park, Flora and Fauna.
