“Music has bonding power, it’s primal social cement” – Oliver Sacks
This saying is so true when it comes to people bonding with each other. How many times have you and your friends or partner shared a playlist and loved the songs? Such is the story of this couple who bonded over music and rest was history.
How they Met!
Angira and Sulabh were driving down to Goa from Mumbai to attend Sunburn and were in the same car. This was a road trip back in 2012. They met each other through common friends. Angira remembers how they bonded over music, endless conversations and laughter. “That trip will always remain one of my fondest memories,” she says.
It was not love at first sight for them but was a gradual journey starting with friendship – they became the best of buddies and then realised that they couldn’t live without each other. Sulabh asked her out at another music festival; Magnetic Fields Festival four years later in 2016. They knew they were made for each other since they always found a way back, no matter how much they argued. Their chemistry was unbeatable. Angira says, “As cliche as it may sound “when it’s meant to be, you just know!”
The Proposal
The proposal was one of a kind for her. Reminiscing the day Angira says, “We were at Magnetic Fields which happens in a small city in Rajasthan in the month of December. It was freezing cold and we were living in tents on the sand. It was a full moon night that night, we were sitting by the bonfire. I wasn’t expecting it when he said that he wants to be more than what we were at the time. I was thoroughly confused as being the closest to him I knew marriage wasn’t anywhere on his mind yet. The conversation that followed was actually non-romantic and quite funny. The poor thing was trying to ask me out and I was dissecting every word that came out of his mouth like a surgeon!”
The In-between Story
When Angira was finally ready to introduce Sulabh to her parents she invited a bunch of friends thinking they’ll help lighten the situation. On the contrary, they behaved more like his in-laws and made the entire experience fun for themselves. Convincing her parents was not difficult for her as she broke the news in 2017 and they were already very keen on getting her married. They did a full background check and grilled her friends for more intel on him but at the end realised that they would have found a similar partner for her if they had to find one for her. Their parents met in January 2018 and got along very well with each other. Angira wasn’t around on that day but Sulabh was and her sister kept giving her live updates.
The reason why they picked Radisson Blu, Udaipur as the venue, Angira explains, “It was one of my family’s favourite vacation places. We often travelled to Rajasthan and in particular to Udaipur for dad’s work. Always stayed at Radisson. When I took Sulabh there for the first time he fell in love with the venue too. Some of the staff recognised us when we went there to finalise the food menu, etc.”
Planning the wedding while working was hectic for them but they enjoyed it. Their weekends were well planned, hopping from one place to another for shopping. She loved this time spent together with family. With regards to the food and decor, she was very particular about food. Almost everything they tasted at the Radisson Blu they loved. The next thing was decor which was something Sulabh was taking care of. The event manager was his college friend so they chalked it out pretty well amongst themselves. Every function was unique in its way. The couple belonged to two very different cities; Mumbai and Delhi and were celebrating their wedding in Udaipur. So it was essential that the essence of all the 3 cultures was captured well.
Wedding Ceremonies
Mehndi
It was a morning function along with a welcome lunch. The theme selected was floral and pastel. The whole setup was next to the pool with refreshing drinks and a wholesome lunch spread. The couple entered to the sound of dhol and were welcomed by the crowd with beers. Angira wore a beautiful pink floral lehenga with bottle green halter neck choli adorned with pretty floral jewellery. Sulabh complemented her look in his floral embroidered Nehru jacket green-hued kurta pyjama.
Sangeet
The same day evening they had a sangeet ceremony where the theme was gowns and tux. “This evening was straight out of a fairy tale. Everyone looked gorgeous. There was a band that kept us entertained. And then the DJ entertained us in the after-party. And then our friends entertained us in the after-after party,” said Angira. This was also their engagement ceremony! Angira looked fabulous in her pastel A-line one-shouldered gown which was beautifully embroidered on the top. Sulabh looked stunning in a black and white tux with a white bow and they both looked very elegant. The couple also did dance performances and Sulabh went down on his knees with the engagement ring. The moment was very special for Angira.
Haldi
Next day morning was the haldi ceremony for which the theme was yellow, gold or white. This was set up on the terrace from where they had a great view of the beautiful Fateh Sagar Lake. The dome was beautifully done in blue and yellow with a huge chandelier hanging right above the place where the ceremony was to happen. Angira said that this was an emotional celebration for her as everyone got teary-eyed since it started to sink in that she was moving towards the next phase of her life. There were some folk dances and puppet shows arranged for entertainment. All in all the event was very musical, jolly and sweet. Angira wore a simple yellow sari with a golden border for her haldi. This was very traditionally done with a mukut tied to her head and all the ladies applying haldi to her. Sulabh wore a blue t-shirt and half pants.
The Wedding
The wedding was on the same day evening which was set up in the lawn at the Radisson. The theme was traditional. Angira looked royal in her bright red bridal outfit with elbow sleeved blouse. Her lehenga was intricately embroidered and the dupatta had heavy broad borders. She wore a bangle size nath which complemented her look well. Her contrast emerald kundan jewellery definitely added the ‘chaar chand’ to her look. Sulabh looked every bit the prince in his cream coloured heavily embroidered bandhgala sherwani. The moti haar accompanied with pink-hued heavy bordered stole only accentuated his royal look. There was dancing and fun at the wedding with lots of crying at the end of the ceremony as they took their first steps into their new life together!
