7 Indian Superfoods that will Change the Game!

7 Indian Superfoods that will Change the Game!

In the frenzy of wedding planning, one often forgets to take care of their health. Darling, while you are busy running from post to pillar you are neglecting your health! Don’t even get me started on the fad diets that you go for just to lose some extra kilos. First of all, it is not necessary to lose weight for the wedding. It is completely up to you. But it is important to be healthy. Binging on junk or comfort food as we call it can prove to be quite harmful. My advice- include nutritious food in your diet. No, you don’t have to eat avocados, blueberries or other fancy-schmancy items. The wedding is enough to burn a hole in your pocket, your diet shouldn’t!

FYI, India houses some of the most healthy food items. It won’t cost you moreover, it will provide you with all the necessary nutrients and vitamins. So, keep your acai berry bowls at bay and take a look at these 8 Indian superfoods that will help you to stay in the pink of health.

1. Barley

Once known as the poor man’s wheat, jau or barley is quickly becoming a favourite amongst health enthusiasts. Barley helps in fighting cholesterol and hunger. It also aids in detoxification and is packed with antioxidants.

Drinking barley water or barley tea on a regular basis will help you with UTIs. Barley tea is a popular drink among Koreans- they credit it for their beautiful, glowing skin.

2. Coconut

Coconut is a major part of food cooked in South India and Maharashtra. Food cooked in coconut oil is healthier than the one cooked in sunflower oil. Drink at least a glass of coconut water in a day, binge on coconut meat, cook food in coconut oil, apply some coconut oil on your hair- there are numerous ways to include coconut in your daily life. It is good for your hair, skin and overall health!

3. Jackfruit

Jackfruit or fanas is known as a miracle fruit all over the world. It is a rich source of minerals, vitamins, fibre and electrolytes. Jackfruit is known to improve digestion and is an excellent source of simple sugar (fructose).

4. Makhana

Makhana is my favourite snack to munch on. Makhanas or fox-nuts are low in fat, high in protein, iron and magnesium. They are also believed to slow down ageing. Roast some makhana in ghee and salt and make yourself a tasty snack for evenings.

5. Haldi

One of the most common spices in Indian kitchens, haldi is packed with numerous benefits. It has anti-inflammatory properties and exceptional medical benefits. It can cure a cold and cough in a jiffy! Golden milk as our White friends like to call it is your best bet. Just gulp down a glass of haldi ka doodh in the morning and you are good to go.

6. Moringa

The fancy-sounding moringa is nothing but our humble drumsticks. Moringa often makes an appearance in Indian curries and veggies. It is packed with nutrients and is a rich source of calcium, potassium, iron, magnesium, vitamin A, C and D. Moringa leaves help in reducing cholesterol and blood sugar.

7. Desi Ghee

Last but not least, the mother of all superfoods- The Desi Ghee! Ghee has tons of healthy fats, helps to lose weight, boosts immunity and aids in digestion. It is an excellent moisturizer and the best oil for your hair. Stop saying eww and start consuming ghee already!

Say bye to the fancy superfoods and start making Indian superfoods as a part of your daily diet!
