5 Hatke Amit Aggarwal Polymer Sarees for Your Bridal Trousseau

5 Hatke Amit Aggarwal Polymer Sarees for Your Bridal Trousseau

Sarees; my first love. I have grown up watching my mother drape her sarees (taanth, silks, and the occasional georgettes) in a jiffy and perfectly so. Naturally, I love sarees but, much to my mother’s chagrin, the regular materials or rather, the traditional fabrics she loved have come a long way when it comes to defining a saree.

Fashion and innovation go-hand-in-hand, right? Well, this is true for sarees too. While on the one hand, there is an entire movement dedicated to reviving ancient weaves, on the other hand, new-age fashion designers are working towards sustainable use of materials. No, I am not only talking about going back to cotton or mulls but actually making use of plastic polymers to carve new silhouettes in sarees. Yes, this particular designer has ensured that you will want to include these hatke sarees in your bridal trousseau!

But plastic polymers? Yes, you read that right! The designer in question is none other than Amit Aggarwal. Never the one to shy away from reusing plastic and other industrial materials in mainstream fashion, he adds an ‘inimitable touch of innovation’ to the eternal Indian garment – the saree.

At the Indian Couture Week 2019, Amit Aggarwal’s new collection titled ‘Lumen and Flux’ showcased clothes that were nothing short of magnificent! Lumen showcased edgy designs with a lot of layering, an amalgamation of West and East. And the best part – the collection included sarees blended with dresses, with two pallus, dramatic trails, structured silhouettes and bridal lehengas with a Victorian influence.

The colour palette was refreshing too – blending opaque colours with metallic colours in iridescent hues. Colours like deep emerald, petrol-like, purple, plum with gold, silver, ivory and blush. These were combined with neons as well. Furthermore, the designer made use of recycled polymer stripes to carve abstract foliage patterns on gossamer tulle lace and organzas.

So while I can go on and do about these sarees and the designer, of course, let’s just take a look at his amazing creations!

1. Plum Goddess

Lisa Haydon Lalvani walked the ramp for Amit Agarwal donning a new-age winged saree complete with recycled polymer details.

2. Beauty in Nature

This beautiful winged saree is straight out of my dream! And brides-to-be, take notes! It would be a great addition to your bridal trousseau 🙂

Handcrafted and embroidered to bio-mimic the minute details of plant and human anatomy, opaque, transparent and reflection of the emerald colour shows the reflection of light.

3. Metallica

Asli Sona aka Sonakshi Sinha in a gorgeous new-age metallic saree with hand-embellished linear details.

4. Sculptured Beauty

Talk about innovation and you get a new-age saree with a sculptured pallu crafted with moulded polymer.

5. The Classic Combination

You really can’t go wrong with a black and gold combination, can you? Nope. Another Lumen winged saree for keeps!

So, what say ladies? Want to wear sarees but want to stand apart from the madding crowd? These polymer-based winged sarees are a great bet!
