ICW 2018 saw the best of Bridal fashion with the showstoppers Kareena Kapoor, Kiara Advani, Kangana Ranaut and more!
It was that time of the year again, when couture took over the city full throttle. And this time, India Couture Week 2018 came in a bigger, better and boisterous avatar. The fashion extravaganza, which took place from July 25 to July 29, at the Taj Palace, Delhi showcased some game-changing bridal fashion presented by the top couturiers of the fashion world – Anju Modi, Amit Aggarwal, Rohit Bal, Reynu Taandon, Tarun Tahiliani, Shyamal and Bhumika, Shane and Falguni Peacock, Rahul Mishra, Pallavi Jaikishan and Suneet Varma.
From clothes that spelt grandeur, and sets that could give big-ticket productions a run for their money, the fashion week was full of inspo. If you are bride-to-be and looking for bridal fashion inspo, you are at the right place. Here’s presenting our favourite picks:
Shyamal and Bhumika:
Shyamal & Bhumika opened the finale of ICW 2018’s with their latest collection – ‘Muse of Mirrors’. The collection draws its inspiration from their recent trip to Europe, and featured a lot of intricate embroidery in age-old techniques of aari, zardozi and pitta.
Kiara Advani:
Their showstopper was none other than rising star Kiara Advani, who walked the ramp in a stunning pastel green lehenga. The lehenga comprised of a floor length lehenga skirt with a trail paired with a bustier with sheer puffy sleeves.
Other favourites:
Their collection was dominated by rose pink, greys, mints, ivory, midnight blue and pastels, while its mood remained decidedly royal.
Falguni and Shane Peacock:
To say that the Falguni Shane Peacock show was high on shine would be an understatement. Aside from the liberal use of crystals on all of the garments, there’s was sparkle everywhere.
Kareena Kapoor Khan:
Spotted in a champagne-hue shimmery lehenga, Kareena Kapoor Khan closed the show like no-other. Can’t get over the shimmery dupatta with the signature Falguni and Shane Peacock details – feathers.
Other favourites:
Love how to the designers balanced the use of crystals by maintaining a restrained colour palette – the pastels were more washed-out, the golds were duller and the crimsons, somber. And as is their signature, feather trims lent the perfect touch of exaggeration to nearly all of the looks.
Tarun Tahiliani:
Tarun Tahiliani presented his couture line for the year, titled ‘In Elysium’ – meaning paradise. So, if you were a bride looking for wedding outfits, Tahiliani’s latest collection will give you the feeling of being in paradise.
He’s been working on making his wedding wear that is lighter in weight, to make sure his brides are not weighed down during the celebrations and I say that’s a win win situation to find a lehenga that’s comfy at the same time.
Aditi Rao Hydari:
Aditi Rao Hydari stole the show when she walked in a soft pink lehenga with a lot of crystals and pearls, with a touch of feathers and an ombré veil, paired with an off-shoulder tulle blouse.
Other favourites:
From hand appliquéd tulle lehengas to the kinds that come heavily embroidered in zari, Tahiliani made sure he catered to the expectations of every kind of bride.
Amit Aggarwal:
Aggarwal’s collection titled ‘Crystalis’ featured various complex patterns, textiles and embroideries.
Shilpa Shetty:
Shilpa Shetty, closed the show in plum-hued metallic sari with a futuristic feel to it. The crystal-embedded attire was styled to look like a gown featuring a slit on one side. But it was paired with a halter-neck blouse that gave it the look of a sari-blouse combo.
Other favourites:
Rahul Mishra:
His collection titled as ‘Maraasim’ which in Urdu, means relationships. Known to go heavy on the research with his work. For this season, the designer deep dived into a study of visual history starting from when the Mughals invaded India.
Showstopper:
Perhaps one of the more surprising things about Rahul Mishra’s show was that it was one of the few showcases at India Couture Week 2018 that forwent the use of a showstopper.
Our favourites:
Anju Modi:
The designer who has won a million hearts with her signature textile-soaked renditions through blockbuster movies like Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, brought back the Victorian era charm to the ICW 2018 ramp.
Kangana Ranaut’s handcrafted beige lehenga teamed with a Victorian-style luxe velvet jacket and plunging neckline is everything that a contemporary bride can ask for.
So brides-to-be, hope you had your bucket of unpaid from the best of #icw2018!
