LFW ’19 Proves it has Something for Every Bride!

Firstly, I am going to state the obvious. 

Just like every year, Lakme Fashion Week has Winter Festive ‘19 has superseded my expectations. Every runway walk, every showstopper and every designer has been super impressive and the fashion bar has been raised 10 notches higher than last year!

The beauty of Lakme Fashion Week is that there is an amalgamation of ace designers of the industry- each one bringing their style, craftsmanship, culture, and trends. And all of them have proven to be a treat to the eyes. Yes, the past three days were stressful, because I had taken up the responsibility to present nothing but the best to our brides-to-be, bridesmaids and sister-of-the-brides, however, I would be lying if I said that weren’t exciting.

Without wasting much time, here are some outfits I picked for y’all:

Benaras & Beyond

Varanasi. Kashi. Benares.

This season ace designer, Jayanti Reddy has derived major inspiration from a place which has remained unchanged over centuries. The idea behind the outfits is to showcase a bride who is unwilling to be defined in any absolute term, while simultaneously focusing on the heritage and tradition which the sacred city exudes. Like the complex weaves of a complex city, the designer seeks inspiration to curate something for the modern Indian bride.

Characterised by craftsmanship and creativity, this designer lays a lot of importance on naturally dyed, handwoven textiles which are embellished with hand embroidery. 

Gorgeous actress Pooja Hegde was the showstopper for Jayanti Reddy. She flaunted a heavily embellished purple lehenga, paired with emerald jewellery.

An Ode to the Heirlooms

Given the brand’s philosophy of ‘innovation by juxtaposition’, in this new collection, designer Ridhi Mehra celebrates the unique amalgamation of two Indian cultures- Gujarati and Kashmiri, with a ‘tadka’ of Bohemian style.

For the Winter/Festive 2019 collection she seeks inspiration from her favourite age-old family heirloom pieces like Kashmiri Pashmina shawls, rare Basra pearls necklace, Navratan kamarbandh, and handwoven silk sarees. Her collection emphasises sophistication, intricacy and craftsmanship, thus making it elegant and special.

The ever-glowing and stunning, Diana Penty, walked the ramp for Ridhi Mehra. She donned an ornate champagne and ivory, belted-lehenga with an organza dupatta. 

If you want to get sangeet-ready, watch out for this gorgeous peach raw silk embroidered lehenga with an embellished scallop blouse and an organza dupatta.

Gulaal

Known for creating elegant clothing fused with the glorious old-world charm of India, Anushree Reddy’s line of clothing is characterized by pure fabrics, fresh colours, and elegant silhouettes brewed with passionate attention to detail and subtle prints. 

Ananya Panday walked the ramp designer Anushree Reddy. She wore an ivory and silver lehenga with pretty tassels and paired with a contrasting choker. A perfect pick for your sangeet or engagement ceremony.

Peshwai

In the world of fashion, Gaaurang has become synonymous with hand-crafted textile art. Gaurang is a self-taught designer who has a deep passion for Indian textiles and has brought weavers to the front. This year he has brought to the Lakme Fashion Week oodles of culture and colour through his range of Paithnis.

A shout out to all the Maharashtrian brides, you must have at least one of these in your trousseau!
