Praveen & Priyanka Mumbai : South-Indian Wedding Ceremony Filled with Tradition
What is a good wedding ceremony without rituals? The whole essence of Indian marriages lies in the ceremonies practiced and the deep meaning behind them – and Priyanka & Praveen’s marriage was all of this and beyond!
Lots of happiness, laughter and joy surrounded this beautiful couple as they held hands and took their Saat Pheras around the Holy Fire of the Havan Kund. The Vedi Mandap was decorated with an abundance of purple-white carnations and fresh green ferns. The stunning bride, Priyanka, was dressed in a traditional red bridal saree styled with an emerald green blouse and chunky gold waistbelt. She accessorised her look with heirloom gold jewellery that included a stunning temple necklace embedded with red gemstones, her royal rani haar and delicate jhumkas – she looked like an ideal South-Indian bride! The groom kept it traditional in his crisp white dhoti-kurta and gold brocade safa.
Our favorite part from Priyanka and Praveen’s marriage was the Sthālīpākaṃ. It’s a ritual where the handsome groom adorned Priyanka’s feet with silver toe rings. This ritual is practiced in order to ward off the evil eye. The bride was then adorned by a string of black beads during the same ceremony – these beads along with the silver toe rings are symbolic of the fact that the bride is now a married woman.
Once things were made official, celebrations continued at the reception party held in a banquet hall, which was lit in hues of white and pink. Priyanka donned an orange lehenga-choli that was gorgeously embellished with gold sequins and beads while Praveen complemented her perfectly in his carbon black suit, white shirt and grey tie.
Deepak Chabria Photography captured every magical moment from this traditional South-Indian marriage in all its glory. The rituals, the happiness, the sweet moments of love were all so aptly shot.
