An Online Attraction
Rudy and Kasey’s love story began in 2016. Rudy chanced upon Kasey’s profile on his friend’s online dating app. Rudy wanted to know more about Kasey and downloaded the same app on his phone too. This is where it all began. However, at that point, Rudy was spending his summer in Nicaragua so the two connected via iMessage and Facetime for a month, before they finally met. Their first date was rather unconventional- they went out on the street to register as voters for the 2016 Presidential elections.
It is all about love
After dating for six months, Rudy bagged a new job in Mexico city. Kasey, a freelance radio engineer and recording artist instantly agreed to move in with Rudy, despite it being a risky move. Subsequently, they built their first home and laid a strong foundation that later materialised into marriage.
Picturesque Proposal
In December of 2016, Rudy and Kasey took a three week trip to Panama, Chile, New Zealand and Vietnam. Rudy made a whole plan to propose to Kasey on top of a beautiful snow capped mountain in New Zealand (Lord of the Rings-style). However, due to strong winds, they weren’t able to take the helicopter up the mountain.
Rudy had to activate his plan B and reorganize the trip last minute. They took a boat out to the middle of Milford Sound where Rudy proposed to Kasey. Before asking Kasey, Rudy had him take out his phone to record a video of the beautiful surroundings. It was a perfect sunny day. They were surrounded by waterfalls and dolphins swimming in the water. Rudy then pulled out the ring and asked Kasey to marry him. And yes, the whole proposal was caught on video.
Wedding Planning
The grooms planned their wedding from their home in Redwood City, California. The planning process wasn’t a cakewalk. The two had to spend a whole lot of time on weekends, planning the wedding details together.
The venue helped Rudy and Kasey by supplying a shortlist of incredible vendors to work with.
The Pre-wedding shoot
Prior to the wedding, the grooms had an oh-so-gorgeous pre-wedding shoot. For the shoot, they were dressed in casual attire. Rudy wore a striped black and white t-shirt with grey pants, while Kasey wore a blue full-sleeved shirt with navy blue trousers. A mix of poses and candid shots, indoors and outdoors, the pre-wedding shoot was phenomenal. The photographer managed to take cute, mushy, and adorable pictures of the grooms, leaving us awestruck!
Wedding ceremony
The wedding saw guests from across 15 countries and over seven states of the US- the diversity made the ceremony even more meaningful!
While Rudy flaunted a black Sabyasachi sherwani, Kasey looked dapper in his off-white Sabyasachi outfit. The two teamed up their outfits with flattering juttis by the same brand. The wedding ceremony saw the grooms take their vows, while family and friends enjoyed the celebration.
Reception
This was a rather extravagant affair! With dainty white floral arrangements, vintage chandeliers, and glass candle holders, the dining area looked like a dream. Rudy and Kasey were seeing twinning in tuxedos. The grooms cut a delectable four-tiered gold, ivory and beige textured wedding cake. The ceremony saw a whole lot of dancing, singing, and entertainment.
Challenged encountered
They did run into some challenges when it came to coordinating with vendors. Being a same-sex couple, they didn’t always see ourselves reflected in the communications they received from vendors. Many times, vendors would only supply bride-groom photos/examples, and even their contracts were given to us with bride-groom language, with no consideration or modification beforehand.
“The most challenging aspect of planning the wedding was setting a realistic budget. We have never planned a wedding before so we didn’t always know how much certain things would cost. Also, communicating the many details with the multiple vendors and then coordinating the sync of those vendors was a real challenge.” said Rudy and Kansey.
Funniest Moment
“We didn’t finish our vows until the very last minute. We were finalizing them as we were getting dressed.”
About the super-talented photographer
“Leygh is a world-class photographer. He knew how to get the best from us, and capture the most precious moments seemingly without any effort. He gracefully maneuvers through the day stealthily, never getting in the way. Leygh found the perfect combination of angles, colors, smiles and moments that will allow us to remember our wedding in a beautiful way.
Tips for other grooms
Rudy and Kansey have some great advice for grooms-to-be. They are of the opinion that, “Take your time planning. Don’t let people discourage you from having the wedding you want and desire. Do it YOUR way! Let go of all control on your wedding day.”
