7 Tips to Refurbish Your Mom’s Saree for Brides-to-be

7 Tips to Refurbish Your Mom’s Saree for Brides-to-be

The mother-daughter bond is synonymous with unconditional love, a treasure-house of memories, and a bond that lasts for a lifetime. When a girl is ready to tie the knot, she somewhere secretly desires to incorporate at least a couple of things that belonged to her Mumma into her bridal trousseau. Commonly, brides usually treasure their mother’s sarees the most, and why not? After all, a mom’s sarees are beautiful, have a host of memories attached to them, and a bride always feels she is at home when she drapes that very saree.

However, at times brides hesitate to drape their mom’s sarees owing to changing trends or probably thinking that saree may be too heavy for them to carry. If you are a bride-to-be who loves her mom’s sarees and want to drape at least one of them for a function like a puja, reception, pehla phera, etc; you can always get it refurbished.

What’s best?

If you don’t want to drape a saree, you can always use your mom’s saree and incorporate it into any other outfit, like a dress, skirt or lehenga.

Here are ways by which you can successfully refurbish and flaunt your mom’s saree:

1. Use the pallu border

Yayyyyy! This doesn’t necessarily require a tailor!

You can DIY. Just cut the heavy border of your mom’s pallu and stitch it to your lehenga or dress, whatever you wish to flaunt.

This way you can use the saree and also enhance a plain outfit.

2. Use them as dupattas

Does your mom own a heavy brocade or handloom saree?

If yes, you can use it as a dupatta, paired with a not-so-OTT kurta and churidar set. This way the dupatta will grab maximum eyeballs.

3. Use it as a jacket

If you want something indo-western or unconventional to flaunt on your mehendi or sangeet ceremony, you can turn it into a jacket and pair it with a western outfit or a lehenga and short top. You can also ditch the dupatta to give more contemporary vibes.

4. Utilise the patches

Don’t want to use the entire saree?

Not to worry! You can cut the border of the saree into patches and use them in different stylish ways, for example as a shirt pocket.

5. Cushion covers

Instead of incorporating your mom’s saree in an outfit, you can use the sarees to make cushion covers and add an ethnic touch to your living room.

6. Get them into potlis

If you are scouting for an innovative way to use your mom’s saree, why not use them to create potlis? You can use these potlis while attending a wedding function or for smaller functions like pujas, mehendi, etc.

7. Frame the patches as works of art

If you want to make sure that your mom’s saree remains untouched and as good as new, you can always frame patches of the borders. This is also an innovative and reasonable way to decorate your the walls of your house.

I am sure all your moms will be super glad seeing their daughters using their saree(s) 🙂
