When I saw you, I fell in love, and you smiled because you knew. – William Shakespeare
Here’s a couple who met completely by chance. It was fate and the insistence of their respective families that got them to meet each other in the first place! Rahul, the groom, is a Canadian citizen and he came to Indian to meet prospective brides.
On the other hand, Priyanka, our beautiful Indian bride was looking for Prince Charming. And their families thought they’d make a good match. But how wrong they were! This couple did not make a good match but a match like no other! In fact, in their first meeting at Café Chocolade in Amritsar, cupid struck and it was love at first sight.
“We met each other on 1st January 2019 at a cafe and that was actually our first date. Our families wanted us to meet once. So, my brother picked us up and drop us to the cafe so that we can talk and make a decision about the wedding,” says Priyanka.
But as they talked, they fell in love so although they weren’t sure at first, they did not say to this match. The couple were matched through their parents and first interacted via WhatsApp and Facetime. “That’s how we started knowing each other more and we made decision that we want to meet now. Then he came to India on 31st December and on 1st January, we met and finalized our decision to get married.”
But what really sealed the deal? “All his qualities. There is no one like him. He’s the perfect husband material – very caring and responsible. Every single moment was magical for me. He especially came here for celebrating valentine’s week with me and he gave me surprises each and every day.” – Priyanka.
Naturally, both sets of parents were very happy and set out to plan the wedding. In fact, before the couple met, a lot of convincing and hard work was put in from the parents’ end to ensure these two get together.
The Wedding Planning
Everyone in the family has designated wedding planning duty and therefore, it wasn’t tedious for the couple to plan a grand celebration. Priyanka had always wanted a grand wedding where she looked every bit the princess with perfect hair, outfits and jewellery, and makeup! Thankfully, everything was a dream come true for our bride 😊
When it comes to planning a wedding, the venue is very important. In fact, a good venue is the very foundation of how things will pan out during the wedding ceremony itself! Therefore, before they could book the Grand Celebrations Resort in Amritsar as their wedding venue, they had other plans.
“Actually, we changed our venue two months before the wedding. Firstly, we finalised a farm that was an open farm where we booked the decorator but that place did not have any hall so, then we thought about the rain because the weather is so uncertain nowadays. We decided to change the venue and this venue had an amazing hall. So, we booked that and just as we thought – it rained on our wedding day! It was god’s grace that we changed the wedding venue on time!” – Priyanka.
The Wedding Festivities
It was a week-long grand function – starting with the bangle ceremony, bachelors party, saint ceremony, shagun, mehendi, haldi, choora ceremony and then the grand wedding.
For the Shagun ceremony, Priyanka wore a baby pink Indo-western lehenga with a dupatta in the same shade with floral bootas in sequins. Her makeup was glamourous with smoky eyes and bright pink lip shade. She let her hair down for the occasion. Her dapper groom wore a dark wine-coloured suit with beadwork on his jacket.
The Wedding
The vision for the wedding was simply just one thing – it had to be grand. And therefore, the bride had to look nothing less than a queen. Priyanka looked every bit that in her red Anita Dongre lehenga. She went for a complete traditional look – a bridal bun bedecked in red roses, a grand Matha Patti in gold with a coin-shaped tikka. She wore a stunning gold choker and long haar in strands of pearls and a heavy gold pendant. She completed her look with flawless glamorous makeup and a big red bindi. She had two dupattas – one in white to complete the work on her lehenga and the second one in red to match her outfit that she draped over her bun.
Rahul matched his lady love and was the perfect prince charming in a cream and gold sherwani with a red shawl.
